Hay Don’t Leave Me bathside table
You could certainly make the case that we do just as much living in our bathrooms as our lounges, kitchens and bedrooms. And yet – when it comes to selecting homewares with care and intention – this most private of spaces can sometimes come off second best.
Well, no more. We’ve selected some of our favourite washroom accessories for when you want to step up your bathing ritual with a bit of everyday luxury.

Kobn is an Australian lifestyle brand offering thoughtfully designed and certified sustainable products including fabulous hand towels. Designed in Melbourne by textile maven Sophie Matson, the range is inspired by colour theory and the impact hues have on our emotions, thoughts and feelings. The result? Timeless designs with a thoughtful, earthy colour palette. Plus, we reckon the stripes really enhance indoor and outdoor appeal.
Quiet Town organic cotton shower curtain – $331 to $414
Add some artistic flair to your shower or tub with this handmade, NYC-designed cotton shower curtain. Available in a number of different colour combos, you can choose from colour-blocked neutrals or blobby abstract patterns to brighten up your bathroom. We’re especially loving the retro-looking rounded corners with eyelet rings, reminiscent of a boat sail. Find online at Smallable.
Agape Pic-Nic free-standing towel rail – from $1140
Designed some 30 years ago, this classic piece by Italian bathroom specialists Agape is a worthwhile investment piece. Free-standing, the towel rail can be moved about your bathroom as needed, displaying your hand towel, bath towel or bath mat with ease and style. Select from four timber and two paint finishes at Artedomus showrooms in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.
Display your precious bathwares in style with this chic piece. Hand-crafted from a beautifully light coloured travertine, which is available from only one quarry in the world, the Hero tray forms part of an exclusive collection designed by The Cool Hunter. Equally decorative and functional, it’s a beautiful accent piece – with signature orb spherical feet adding a unique point of view.
Rubbish bins are usually a dull-but-essential purchase, so we were thrilled to come across these three-litre pedal-operated bins with some actual design flair. Available in a number of colours with a stylish matte finish, they’ll add an unexpected pop to your bathroom corner. Order at Living Styles.
Redecker Nordic toilet brush set – $120
It’s the least glamorous item in your bathroom, but a tool that can’t be avoided. The Redecker Nordic toilet brush set is crafted from oiled beechwood, with a matching stand made to rest on the floor or mount on the wall. An open construction means it will dry out between uses, and the biodegradable brush can be thrown out once it has reached its use-by. Find the stand, as well as replacement brushes, online at Saison.
Inspired by (and named for) the masterful Italian designer Giovanni Ponti, the stunning Gio hook is sand-cast in solid brass – meaning it’s made from liquefied metal poured into a sand mould. The resulting brass is soft in finish and warm in colour, so it’s not overly flashy and can meld into a range of surroundings. A clever concealed fixing gives the impression that the metal has been wedged into the wall. Two or three hooks in a row will certainly make a statement – it’s almost a shame to cover them with towels. Find them at Henry Wilson’s online store.
Hay Don’t Leave Me bathside table – $360
Bathtime just became more enjoyable with Thomas Bentzen’s portable side table, aptly named Don’t Leave Me. Featuring a convenient handle that allows the metal table to be carried around (or even in and out of) your bathroom, it lets you keep your candle, book, speaker or cocktail close while you soak in the tub. Don’t be fooled by the lightweight, portable structure: the three slanted legs provide great stability. Available in seven colours – find the perfect hue to suit your bathroom at Cult Design.
“The Fit-Out” is a regular series written by interior designer Alice Freer. Each edition she brings you a curated selection of furniture and design pieces in a range of materials, colours, shapes and budgets. Think of it as a buyer’s guide for your home.
